A lot of people in Qatar decide on Korea the same way. Someone’s sister went to Seoul for the cherry blossoms, the photos looked unreal, and now the whole family wants to go in April.
Then they open the embassy page and the mood changes a little.
Getting a South Korean visa from Qatar isn’t impossibly hard. It’s just fussy. You can’t apply online. Your bank’s PDF statement won’t be accepted. And depending on your passport, you might have to show you’ve been in Qatar for over two years.
We handle a lot of these files at RAG Visa, so here are the ten snags we untangle most, with tips if you’d rather handle it yourself.
The short answer: if you’re an expat, you walk into the consular section of the Korean Embassy in Onaiza yourself, no booking required. You’ll need your passport and QID, an employment certificate, original stamped bank statements, flight and hotel bookings and a photo. Some nationalities must also prove more than two years of residence in Qatar. Hold a Qatari passport? Then a short holiday needs no visa at all.
Start with the passport in your hand. Your QID doesn’t come into it.
Qatari passport holders get in without a visa for a short trip. Normally they’d fill in a K-ETA, Korea’s online pre-travel approval, but Korea has paused that requirement for a group of countries including Qatar through 31 December 2026. Flying in January or later? Look it up again first.
For everyone else, it’s simpler and slightly annoying. Fifteen years in Doha, a villa in Al Waab, kids born at Sidra: none of it changes what your own passport needs.
Going sightseeing? Visiting your cousin who teaches English in Busan? Flying in for a K-beauty expo? The embassy treats those as three different reasons, so the file looks a bit different for each.
Seeing relatives tends to need something showing how you’re related, plus a letter from them. A business trip often needs a letter from the Korean company. We check which one fits before you start collecting documents, because applying under the wrong one is a very avoidable mistake.
For applicants of certain nationalities, the embassy asks for proof that you’ve been living in Qatar for over two years. People often only discover this the week they planned to apply.
There are two ways to show it, according to the embassy. One is an employment certificate with your position and salary plus a residency details certificate from Metrash. The other is a single employment certificate showing your official start date and salary, notarised by the MOFA Consular Department. That notarised version is only valid for a month, so timing matters.
If you’ve been here less than two years, we’ll tell you straight away. Better to know now than at the counter.
This one catches so many people.
The embassy wants an original three-month salary statement, signed and stamped by your bank. Online printouts aren’t accepted. So the PDF you downloaded from your banking app, however neat, won’t do.
Ask your branch for the stamped version early. Some banks turn it around in a day, others take longer, and nobody wants to be chasing a bank manager two days before you planned to go to the embassy.
Along with your employment certificate, the embassy asks for your company’s establishment card and commercial registration.
That means going through HR or your PRO, and in some companies that takes a week. If you run your own business, you’ll need your own company documents instead. We give you a clear list of what to ask HR for, worded so they don’t have to guess.
A confirmed return ticket and a hotel booking go in the file. Put them side by side with your form and read the dates out loud.
It sounds obvious. Yet we keep seeing files where someone lands in Incheon on the 4th and checks in on the 5th, apparently planning to sleep in the airport. An officer will notice that.
If you’ve travelled abroad in the last five years, the embassy may want copies of those travel records. Old visas, entry stamps, the trip to Thailand in 2022.
For many people this actually helps the file. A history of visiting countries and coming back on time is reassuring. The trick is finding the pages and organising them, especially if some of those trips were on an old passport sitting in a drawer somewhere.
One passport photo, white background, taken within the last six months.
That’s the whole rule, and people still turn up with a photo from their QID application three years ago, or one with a grey background from a studio in Najma. Get a fresh one.
The consular section is inside the embassy complex in Onaiza, in the diplomatic area. There’s no appointment system and no online submission, so you go in person during visa hours, Sunday to Thursday.
Take cash. They don’t do cards for the fee. Good news on the passport, though: they scan it and hand it straight back, so you can still fly to Muscat next weekend while you wait. Hours shift in summer and around Eid, so peek at the embassy website the morning you go.
After you apply, you check the result online. The embassy doesn’t publish a fixed processing time, so don’t book anything non-refundable for the following week.
We’d suggest applying at least a month before you fly, more if you’re travelling during cherry blossom season or around Chuseok, when everyone seems to want to go at once. If a visa is refused, we can look at the file with you and work out what to strengthen before applying again. What we can’t do, and no agency honestly can, is guarantee an approval. That decision belongs to the embassy.
You can absolutely do this yourself. Plenty of people do.
Where the best visa agency in Qatar earns its place is in the boring details. Knowing that online bank statements get rejected. Spotting that your notarised certificate expires before you reach the embassy. Noticing that the hotel dates don’t match the flight. Miss one and it’s another morning off work and another drive to Onaiza.
When a Korea application from Doha goes wrong, it’s rarely because the person wasn’t eligible. Usually a stamp was missing, or a certificate had expired, or the hotel dates were off by a day.
If you’d like help with your South Korean visa from Qatar, RAG Visa can check your eligibility, review your documents and prepare your file before you go to the embassy. Get in touch with our team to get started.
Not for a short trip. Qatari citizens are visa-exempt, and the usual K-ETA step is on pause for Qatar until the end of 2026. After that, look up the rules again before booking.
Applicants of certain nationalities must prove they've lived in Qatar for more than two years. This is usually done with an employment certificate plus a Metrash residency certificate, or a notarised employment certificate.
No. They scan it and return it the same day, which is a relief for most people. You then check your visa result online.
Give it at least a month. Leave more room in spring and early autumn, since those are Korea's busiest travel seasons and you don't want to be refreshing a status page the night before your flight.
